Ink-black hair, dark eyes, blood-red lips and skin as white as the finest, frailest porcelain.



Because her skin is made of porcelain. This is a deformity she was born with, a rare condition which affects a handful of Rocky Fields' girls every generation. As such, Faience must be extremely careful when walking, since a fall could break her beyond any salvation. Just normal speech or any small range of movement wears at her frail skin, leaving her chipped in places already, despite her young age.

H I S T O R Y

s h o r t version; Born in the Village of the Salmon in the west of Rocky Fields, a wide-reaching kingdom run entirely by women, men reduced to servitude and positions of manual labour, Faience wasn't always called Faience. Until the Council of Eleven found her at age ten, she was known by another name, Eggshell and lived as normal a life as a girl with her condition could dream of.



However, eventually she was discovered by the ruling class of the country, on the look-out for a new porcelain-skinned queen, seeing as their last one was becoming disobedient enough to warrant a sacrifice soon to the cliffs at the foot of the royal castle's highest tower. Eggshell was perfect for the task, still of an age where she could be influenced by the wishes of the Council and the Armies. They took her from her home to the royal capital, to the royal castle and began training her in the ways of royalty. After a year of introduction to a queen's lifestyle, Eggshell - now under the name of every Rocky Fields ruler before her, Faience - officially ascended the throne and began her reign.



too l o n g didn't read; They divide their timeline into three ages in Rocky Fields, the Slave Ages when women were still subjugated by men, the Middle Ages when they rose up, first against their masters, then against the women trying to gain control in the aftermath of liberation and finally, the current era, the Golden Ages, when the Council of Eleven by use of the Porcelain Queens have managed to becalm the nation into some semblance of order. Now the Armies are sent to their neighbouring countries to fight, rather than attacking their own when they surged in rebellion against corrupt leaders.



If order weren't in itself a sign that their purpose was good and just, the Council needed only look to the Highlands where unicorns have been appearing since the end of the Middle Ages, grazing on the large plains there, letting themselves be tamed by the Virgin Warriors who lead the Armies in their silver-plated chariots. The unicorns deserted the lands during the Slave and Middle Ages, because the Rocky Fields' people were not deserving, it is claimed, they have returned because now they are.



Men in Rocky Fields have, meanwhile, been stripped of all power and influence. They live lives of servitude and reside together in huge complexes called Facilities where their main purpose is to work for the local households and, if chosen to, father children by the women who now rule over them, more harshly even than they themselves once ruled. However, in Rocky Fields, lesbianism in encouraged and chastity seen as a virtue, so the women of the country are only expected to sleep with men when they want to reproduce. Though, not all is that simple, of course.



The eleven counties, each named after a traded good or a local characteristic, elect their royal representative, their Count, who is then sent to the castle to advise and guide the Queen in her duties and in her work. The Queen herself is officially a representative of the Capital region and leads the Council of Eleven, though unofficially the Council dictate most of her government.



Their neighbours to the east, the Heatherlands, have been in an on and off war with them for a century and Faience has been placed on the throne at the beginning of a new bout. The former Queen having been advised to strengthen the Armies, Rocky Fields is, however, well-equipped to handle the conflict which has turned bloody and violent at the borderline strongholds. They have lost many soldiers, many good women, too many, Faience thinks.
